There are more uses for this spice than just cooking; it is being used to treat a whole range of conditions in horses.

    Why use it?

It is a member of the Ginger family and it contains the active ingredient curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, and has been used in human medicine for years.

For horses it is used mainly for stiff joints, itchy skin and digestive upsets. It can also be used in times of stress.

It is cheap to buy and horses eat it happily with very few side-effects.

Normally the absorption and bio-availability of turmeric is maximised by mixing with black pepper and oil. Flax oil is good to use, but you can also use olive or vegetable oil.
