Pinworm
13/08/2015Over the last year or so there has been an increase in the number of cases of Pinworm reported.
Pinworm is a type of roundworm found in the large intestines of horses. Its tail tapers into a point, hence the name.
Although this worm does not cause damage to the internal organs, it can cause terrible itching.
How to recognise the problem:
- Hair loss around the tail region
- Biting of the hindquarters
- Rubbing of the back end against doors and fences etc
- Similar signs as ‘sweet itch’ except no irritation around the mane.
If you suspect, ring your vet for advice.
